President Unit 1992 American Legion

   Happy New Year

In the past few months, we’ve reached out to the community in numerous ways. We went to schools with classroom supplies and Veterans in the classrooms, sharing their experiences and giving a Veterans Hero comic book. We distributed poppies at the Tribute Tower, Lounge and a local grocery store; along with the Post Family - we supported the Veterans Day Ceremony and gave bikes and toys to Toys for Tots. Together, the Post and Auxiliary also reimbursed a teacher with $270 in postage for cheer boxes to Afghanistan.

To make Christmas cheerier - we distributed canned goods (2,400 collected from Gautier Elementary School) to food banks and in Christmas Baskets given at the Post. Lap quilts and small fruit baskets were given to Veterans and their family members in Nursing homes. Members helped VA hospitalized Veterans select gifts for their loved ones then wrapped and mailed them with funds given through our own Dual Action Weekly Bingo.

In coming months, we'll have scholarship applications made available through the Guidance Offices at Gautier and Vancleave High School as well as on-line applications for Girls State (young women currently in their Junior year). Around the corner is Easter when we plan to help the City's Easter Egg Hunt.

We fund our projects through membership, Bingo and our annual monthly $100 cash drawing. So far, we are only at 50% of our membership goal, so if you haven't renewed - please do; if you aren't yet a member, we'd love to have your application. There is a place for everyone in this Patriotic community- minded organization.

   For God and Country
